Former newspaper editor leaves her southern American magnolia roots, marries her British husband (online crush for 10 years) and moves to England. As if balancing her teaching career as a college lecturer, driving on the 'right' side of road and adding milk to hot tea isn't enough - they are finally pregnant with twins after trying their hand at fertility treatment through IVF with an egg donor. Perhaps some babies do come by stork...
About me.
My name is Amanda. I really dislike grammar mistakes, blue cheese, and having cold feet. My true loves include: my little family - handsome man 'o mine and my gorgeous twins 'pickle and pud', purring cats, sunshine on my face and fresh lavendar. I also love writing.
My husband is British and a gentleman. Before I met him, I didn't truly know the meaning of life. Now my life is purposeful and fulfilling. He gave me two of the most beautiful babies and I probably thank him at least once every day.
I refer to my husband as 'handsome man 'o mine'. That is because he is handsome and he is mine. I try to forgive him when his socks land shy of the hamper. He dislikes olives, frivolous spending and people who take themselves too seriously. He has questionable taste in music and he loves our two cats more than most men love their gadgets. I would marry him again in a heartbeat.
In May 2009, We welcomed our perfect 8lb and 6lb 4 oz twins into our world. They make life worth living and my love for them is immense. Upon their arrival, my husband and I metamorphosed from reasonable adults into THOSE PARENTS. We became google obsessed, babywearing, organic feeding, routine planning, label reading people who make their own wood toys and can hold their own in a conversation about the colour and texture of poop, but have no idea what is going on in the world at large. You know the sort. Sorry about that.
My twins love their sleep, cheerios and plotting in only a way that twins can do. They aren't thrilled about peas, being denied 'bedtime hour' television or strangers discussing how one twin is larger than the other. The spent 39 weeks incubating in the same space. I am sure the realise which one took up the most room.
The three of us live together on the outskirts of London, where handsome man 'o mine and I bought a home with a blue door and a back garden large enough for a double swing set and a few daffodiles. It is perfect.
This started blogging with a bang in October 2004 as a means of chronicling my marriage and move from the USA to the UK. Publicly humiliating my husband was just a bonus. Here, I write about the ups and downs and in-betweens that compose my life; I hope you enjoy it. This is a personal blog, which means that I reserve the right to delete nasty comments, post nasty emails and ridicule nasty people. It is also copyrighted, so be ye warned.
